When the Falcons signed veteran tailback Aaron Stecker late last month in advance of their Week Eight showdown with the Saints, the thinking was that coach Mike Smith was hoping to pick the brain of a player who had spent five years with the Saints -- and all three under coach Sean Payton.
Though the Falcons kept Stecker for one game beyond the Monday nighter at New Orleans, Stecker has been dumped on the eve of a visit to Charlotte for a game against the Panthers.
The Falcons announced the move earlier this evening.
In two games, Stecker had two carries for six yards. The decision to dump Stecker could be an indication that running back Jerious Norwood is ready to return from a three-game absence due to a hip injury. Norwood is listed as question for Sunday’s game.
In Stecker’s place, the Falcons have re-signed receiver Troy Bergeron, a former Arena League player who bounced on and off the roster during the offseason.
