Despite some public hemming and hawing last week, Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward does not plan to retire after the Super Bowl.

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette noted on Sunday that Ward has stated that he has no plans to retire “several times, including this past week.”

Ward said last year that he would retire if he could win a third Super Bowl ring. It seems that was just an emotional statement, and that Ward isn’t ready to give up the game he loves after another productive season.

Then again, maybe Ward is just trying to build more drama for a possible post-game declaration on the winning podium.

(Unfortunately, “The last stop for Hines Ward will be in Dallas” doesn’t have quite the same ring as Jerome Bettis’ line.)
