The Texans haven’t clinched the AFC South title, but they’re close. Apparently, outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney is not so close to being ready.
Texans coach Bill O’Brien told reporters that Clowney and wide receiver Cecil Shorts were out for Sunday’s game with the Jaguars.
Clowney’s dealing with a foot injury and was in a boot this week but apparently has no structural damage. He has 4.5 sacks this year, beginning to show some signs of why they made him the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. There’s no indication whether he’d be available for the wild card round next weekend.
Even if the Texans lose, the Colts would need eight other things to happen in their favor to leapfrog them on tiebreakers for the division crown and playoff berth.
