The Jets lost for the eighth straight week in Kansas City on Sunday and coach Rex Ryan said after the game that Michael Vick would be back at quarterback next weekend as they try to avoid making it nine in a row.
Vick started for the first time this season and made one big improvement over the previous week by not turning the ball over at all in the 24-10 loss. He completed 21-of-28 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown, which was enough to keep him in the job despite the fact that he couldn’t move the offense when the game was still lin doubt in the second half.
“I thought he played well, so we’ll give him another shot against Pittsburgh,” Ryan said, via ESPNNewYork.com. “As long as he’s healthy.”
Vick’s day didn’t get off to a great start as the Jets went three and out on their first possession. That was sandwiched between two long touchdown drives by the Chiefs, who had their way with the Jets defense while building a 14-0 lead that was never threatened all that seriously the rest of the way.
The health proviso makes sense since Vick left the game for a short time in the fourth quarter after banging his head on the turf after taking a hit, but he returned to the game after passing through evaluation for a concussion and earned the chance to run the show again next week.
