Joe Willie Namath is just another Jets fan

It’s been a entertaining two days for football fans in New York that aren’t Jets fans.

It only took a one-point loss to a Super Bowl contender to shake Jets fans (and radio hosts) to the core. Suddenly everyone thinks the Patriots will have an easy time with the team Sunday and Mark Sanchez is a bum.

Perhaps emotions are running high because fans ate up Rex Ryan’s hype so completely this offseason. Like Joe Namath, for instance.

Joe Willie’s thoughts on a possible shootout this weekend: “A shootout? You gotta have something to be shooting. We haven’t been shooting. We can’t get in a shootout with anybody,” he told the New York Post.

Namath defended Mark Sanchez, saying the quarterback was only doing what he’s told when he’s playing so conservative. But he’s not as impressed with Sanchez’s nominal top receiver.

"[Braylon Edwards] can’t catch the ball ... Or rarely does,” Namath said. “He has as many drops as he does catches.”

Namath also let loose on the team’s coaching staff: “The Jets abnormal amount of penalties in this game can be attributed to a disappointing lack of discipline,” he said on his Twitter account.

Joe needs to get a grip. The Jets lost a one-point game to a team that was better than them last year and probably will be better than them again. It happens.

The Jets aren’t some 14-2 or 13-3 team with this schedule and passing game. They are a good team with flaws that is going to have to work hard for every win.

Just don’t tell Namath that.
