Jon Gruden’s name briefly surfaced as a candidate for the Eagles’ coaching vacancy, but Gruden says he’s not interested.
After the Philadelphia Daily News reported that Gruden informed Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, through an intermediary, that he is interested in the Eagles’ job, Gruden texted longtime Philadelphia broadcaster Howard Eskin to deny the report.
“I’m not interested,” Gruden told Eskin.
Gruden coached the Raiders from 1998 to 2001 and the Buccaneers from 2002 to 2008, and his name has surfaced in connection with several coaching vacancies since the Buccaneers fired him. But Gruden has a prominent and high-paying job at ESPN, and he has said many times that he’s staying in broadcasting.
Eventually, the right job might come along, and the 52-year-old Gruden might get back in the coaching game. But so far, Gruden hasn’t publicly declared interest in any job other than the one he has, commentating on Monday Night Football.
