Hall of Fame former Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor is asking to have his child support payments reduced for one of his children, but he didn’t show up for a hearing on the matter on Friday.
The New York Post reports that Taylor wants to cut as much as $500 off his estimated $1,825-a-month payment for his 12-year-old daughter.
The mother of the girl wants the support increased because, she says, her daughter was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and has medical expenses. According to the Post, Taylor has seven children but only has relationships with four of them, and he told the mother of the 12-year-old that he’d start paying her more when his other children get older and are no longer dependent on him.
Taylor didn’t appear at Friday’s hearing, claiming he had a medical issue. That led the judge to say he’d issue a bench warrant for Taylor’s arrest if he fails to show for any future court dates.
That’s not Taylor’s biggest legal concern at the moment. He’s currently awaiting trial on charges of third-degree rape, patronizing a prostitute, sexual abuse and endangering a child.
