The 49ers’ new stadium is apparently really nice. If you can get there.
Getting there has become a major concern since the first event held at the Field of Jeans, a Major League Soccer game. As explained by Mike Rosenberg and Gary Richards of the San Jose Mercury News, a new traffic plan has been devised for Sunday’s christening of the venue by the 49ers, in a preseason game against the Broncos. Rosenberg and Richards describe it as a “crucial test.”
Issues include traffic jams, confusion regarding parking, and hour-plus waits for commuter trains, even though the crowd was sparse in comparison to the expected crowds for NFL games. Each has been addressed; whether each has been improved will be a different issue.
Separate problems existed inside the stadium, where supplies were exhausted at concession stands and stadium employees were unfamiliar with the nooks and crannies of the property.
They’ve got a pair of preseason games before the building officially opens to regular-season football, on Sunday, September 14, when the 49ers host the Bears on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.
