The expansion Ottawa REDBLACKS have signed Sweed, the club announced Monday.

A wide receiver from Texas, the 29-year-old Sweed was the Steelers’ second-round pick in 2008. He caught a combined seven passes for 69 yards in regular-season play for Pittsburgh in 2008 and 2009. He missed the entire 2010 season with an Achilles injury, and he was waived-injured with a shoulder injury in 2011.

Sweed had a stint with the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2013 but was released in June.
