Lions’ Delmas: If I paid attention to our record I’d kill myself

Detroit Lions safety Louis Delmas is having a very good rookie season, and he had a very good game today, returning an interception 100 yards for a touchdown. But he wasn’t feeling very good after the Lions’ loss.

“I don’t really pay attention to [our] record,” Delmas said after the game, per the Detroit News. “But if I did, I’d probably kill myself. I just pay attention to the game. Once you’re losing, you aren’t going to see any smile on this face. This loss is very tough on us, not only myself, but the team.”

Those comments actually came after Delmas had calmed down, at least a little. When reporters first approached him, he snapped that they shouldn’t talk to him after another (expletive) loss.

Delmas was eventually persuaded to talk to reporters, and he reflected on how frustrating it has been for his first NFL season to be on one of the worst teams in the league.

“With all the good things we did today with creating turnovers and making some plays, it’s still a loss,” Delmas said. “We prepare ourselves very hard throughout the week to come in for a loss. It’s very frustrating. I mean, every athlete goes through it, but unfortunately we’ve done been through it 12 times this year.”
