Cornerback Bill Bentley won’t be joining the Lions at training camp.

The Lions announced Thursday that they have waived Bentley, who joined the team as the 85th overall pick of the 2012 draft.

Bentley’s career with the Lions was marked by injuries that kept him out of the lineup for much of his tenure with the team. A shoulder injury limited him to four games during his rookie season and his 2014 campaign ended after one game because of a torn ACL. He did get into 13 games during the 2013 season and had 44 tackles overall during his time in Detroit.

Bentley’s departure leaves the Lions with Nevin Lawson, Christopher Owens, Josh Wilson and 2015 draft picks Alex Carter and Quandre Diggs to go with expected starters Rashean Mathis and Darius Slay. It also leaves them with an empty roster spot to fill before they resume work at training camp.
