Seahawks receiver Ricardo Lockette had said that he plans to play again after a serious neck injury suffered last season. But Lockette is now retiring.

He’s retiring because, as reported by Ed Werder of ESPN, Lockette can’t rotate his head in the aftermath of the neck injury.

Lockette, 29, joined the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2011. He spent the 2012 season on the 49ers practice squad, spent time with the Bears practice squad in 2013, and returned to the Seahawks in October 2013.

He has only one career regular-season start, but two postseason starts. One of those starts came in Super Bowl XLIX; Lockette caught three passes for 59 yards during that game.

Lockette caught 22 passes for 451 yards and four touchdowns for his career in the regular season.
