Michael Oher feels “The Blind Side” has had negative effect on his career

“The Blind Side” turned tackle Michael Oher into a household name before he became a first-round draft pick of the Baltimore Ravens in 2009.

However, Oher doesn’t view the film all that fondly when it comes to his NFL career.

According to David Newton of ESPN.com, Oher believes the movie has painted him in a certain way that isn’t accurate and has hurt his reputation as a player. After a skirmish with defensive end Kony Ealy on Wednsday, Oher was asked if he’s still trying to prove his worth in the league.

I’m not trying to prove anything,’' Oher said. “People look at me, and they take things away from me because of a movie. They don’t really see the skills and the kind of player I am. That’s why I get downgraded so much, because of something off the field.

“This stuff, calling me a bust, people saying if I can play or not ... that has nothing to do with football. It’s something else off the field. That’s why I don’t like that movie.’'

Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for her role portraying Oher’s adoptive mother in the film.

Oher signed a two-year, $7 million deal with the Panthers after just one season with the Tennessee Titans. Oher has started all 91 games he’s appeared in during his six seasons with the Titans and Ravens.
