Word out of Green Bay last week was that tight end Jared Cook will miss the rest of the team’s offseason program after foot surgery.
The surgery was described as a “preventative” measure designed to keep Cook from missing time during the regular season. During a press conference on Monday, coach Mike McCarthy didn’t offer much detail about the issue that led Cook to opt for surgery or when the team expects he’ll be ready to resume football activities, but did say no one is too worried about his outlook for the 2016 season.
“Jared Cook, we have no long-term concern with his situation. It will be good to have him back,” McCarthy said, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I don’t really have a timetable for that. I’m not going to get into injuries. This isn’t the time for that.”
Cook became a rare veteran free agent addition by the Packers after he was released by the Rams and the team hopes he can provide a new wrinkle to their offense. Reviews of his work in early practices were strong and we’ll see if that remains the case upon his return to action.
