Mike Munchak: Lockout will keep Titans from adding free agent QB

M. Munchak

New Titans coach Mike Munchak says he’d like to find a veteran quarterback in free agency. But with a lockout coming, Munchak doesn’t see that happening.

“It makes it very difficult this year, I think, assuming there’s going to be the lockout here in a few weeks,” Munchak said on Mike and Mike in the Morning. “I’ve been part of a lockout and a strike in ’82 and ’87, and unfortunately, as a head coach, I’d love to be in the free agency market in a couple weeks, looking for possible quarterbacks, veteran guys that I think could lead the team. But it’s going to be put on hold, I assume, so all the attention will be on the draft, and looking at possibilities there.”

Munchak, who made clear that Vince Young will not return to the Titans, believes that quarterback is a major need position for his team.

“That’s probably the biggest need -- on the offensive side of the ball, making a decision at the quarterback spot,” Munchak said.

Munchak has an interesting perspective as a coach who was a player during the 1982 and 1987 strikes, and he’ll have more to say on the subject today when he joins Mike Florio on ProFootballTalk Live.
