NFL rules the ratings roost

As the NFL prepares to televise a game against the premier event in all of sports, the always-exciting, fast-paced, and drama-filled (e.g., “Will he adjust his cup with his left hand or his right?”) World Series, the ratings trends suggest that the Steelers-Saints game should do pretty, pretty good against whoever it is that’s playing in baseball’s championship round.

(It’s true. I don’t know. And I don’t care. All I know is that it’s not the Pirates.)

The league has announced that, of the 15 highest-rated shows of the 2010 television season, 13 were NFL games -- including each of the top 12.

Of the 13, four were televised by CBS, four were televised by FOX, and five aired on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

Wait, you thought I’d be posting this and not mentioning NBC?

And now that you’ve mentioned NBC, the Week Seven game between the Vikings and Packers attracted the biggest audience for any Sunday night game in history, with 25.7 million viewers.

25.7 million? I’d better make sure my toupee is on straight this weekend.
