With contract drama circling other star wide receivers, there’s none in Atlanta at the moment.
Because there’s nothing happening between the Falcons and wideout Julio Jones.
According to Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com, there have been no talks about an extension between Jones and the team.
Unlike Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas, there’s not the urgency of a Wednesday deadline, as Jones is playing out the option year of his rookie deal.
And he’s already promised he wasn’t going to be “selifsh” and hold out, eliminating the need for some of the bluster coming out of other camps.
General Manager Thomas Dimitroff made a vague allusion in May to talking to Jones to make sure he’s a part of the team’s future.
But with no July 15 deadline, there’s also no pressure to do it this week. The Falcons did deals with quarterback Matt Ryan and wideout Roddy White just before the start of camp in previous years, so their time frame might still allow for a deal with Jones before the start of the season. Of course, what happens with Thomas and Bryant could impact that as well.
