The Panthers are getting a little help on the defensive line as they try to land a second straight NFC South crown.
The team announced Monday that they have signed defensive tackle Kyle Love and reinstated defensive end Frank Alexander after the end of his 10-game suspension. They would still need to make another roster move to get Alexander on the 53-man roster as they have an exemption until next Monday and they waived defensive tackle Micanor Regis to clear space for Love.
Love hasn’t played in the NFL this season, last seeing time on the field when he played one game each with the Jaguars and Chiefs, who cut him this summer, last season. Love started 24 games for the Patriots in 2011 and 2012, but hey released him in 2013 with a non-football illness designation after he was diagnosed with type-2 diabetes.
Alexander was suspended for the first four games of the season for a violation of the substance abuse policy and then suspended 10 more games in October for a second violation, so he hasn’t played at all this season. He had 3.5 sacks while playing in 28 games for the team in 2012 and 2013.
