Pat McAfee wins first player of the week award

McAfee

Already the AFC’s special-teams player of the month for September, Colts punter Pat McAfee has secured a sheet of paper telling him he’s the conference’s special-teams player of the week.

McAfee, who punts, kicks off, and holds for the Colts, has won the weekly award for the first time in his career.

Fueled by a perfectly executed onside kick that he both initiated and recovered, McAfee helped his cause by putting three of four punts inside the 20 during the Thursday night win at Houston.

McAfee, who has launched three successful onside kicks this year, may have more tricks up his sleeve. He’s the long-distance field goal option in Indy, and coach Chuck Pagano has predicted that McAfee (who kicked and punted at West Virginia) will kick a game-winning field goal of 60 or more yards this season.
