Successful football coaches influence other football coaches. They also apparently influence coaches in other sports.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll’s influence has extended to the NBA, with a trio of pro basketball coaches relying on him for advice and guidance. In addition to previously helping out Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors and Erik Spoelstra of the Miami Heat, Carroll recently spent time with Jason Kidd of the Milwaukee Bucks.
Via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Kidd visited the Seahawks during the offseason program.
“He had OTAs, which was pretty impressive, because he had us involved in all the meetings,” Kidd said. “Just the energy of Pete and the culture he built up there is pretty special.”
It’s special enough to draw Kidd and his basketball colleagues to the Pacific Northwest.
“He was saying for whatever reason, basketball [coaches] are coming to visit me,” Kidd said. “And I can see why. The energy he gives — and you can feel the energy he gives when you walk in that building at 7:30 [a.m.] — it’s a special place.”
Kidd specifically was impressed by the size of the coaching staff and Carroll’s ability to ensure that all of them are on the same page. When it comes to rooting interests, however, Kidd and Carroll aren’t on the same page; Kidd, an Oakland native, is a Raiders fan.
“I didn’t tell him,” Kidd said. “That day I was a Seahawks fan.”
Plenty of basketball coaches will end up being Seahawks fans if Carroll’s methods translate.
