Pink gloves, cleats coming this weekend

Though we’d ordinarily be dramatically opposed to the introduction of the color pink into an NFL uniform (especially when mixed with the color purple), in this case we definitely will make an exception.

According to Sean Jensen of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, four members of the Vikings’ roster will be wearing pink cleats next Monday night against the Packers. It’s part of the league’s breast cancer awareness effort.

The players who’ll wear the shoes include quarterback Brett Favre, cornerback Antoine Winfield, linebacker Chad Greenway, and running back Chester Taylor.

Jensen writes that other players throughout the league are expected to wear pink cleats and/or pink gloves during Week Four, as part of the league’s efforts to fight the disease.

Favre’s wife, Deanna, is a breast cancer survivor, and Greenway is the team’s spokesman for breast cancer awareness.

So we fully support the move, but we realize that there will be some complaints. But, let’s face it, pink cleats are a lot less offensive than green jerseys that match the color of the radioactive rod Homer Simpson carries out of the nuclear power plant at the start of every show.
