The Raiders have formally announced that Jack Del Rio is their next head coach. And owner Mark Davis thinks big things are coming for his downtrodden franchise.
“After a thorough interview and evaluation process, we are excited to announce Jack Del Rio as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders,” Davis said in a statement. “I have no doubt that he will make a significant impact and help reach the goal of everyone in this building, which is to win championships.”
Raiders General Manager Reggie McKenzie added, “Jack Del Rio brings a strong leadership presence to this organization. He has developed an excellent reputation as a coach in this league and we are happy that he is a Raider.”
Del Rio arrives in Oakland after three seasons as the defensive coordinator of the Broncos. Prior to that he was head coach of the Jaguars. Now he gets a second chance at running an NFL team -- a team that hasn’t had a winning record in 12 years. Championships would seem to be a long way off, but perhaps Del Rio is the man to change the Raiders’ fortunes.
