Ravens assistant coach Clarence Brooks passed away Saturday morning after a battle with esophageal cancer.
Brooks was 65.
He had been with the Ravens since 2005 as defensive line coach and spent 24 years as an NFL assistant coach after first coaching for nearly two decades in college. His first NFL job was with the Bears in 1993, and he then worked for the Browns and Dolphins before landing in Baltimore, first on the staff of Brian Billick and then on the staff of current Ravens coach John Harbaugh.
Brooks went public with his diagnoses last December. He was still working with the Ravens last spring as a senior defensive assistant while undergoing treatments.
During Brooks’ tenure as defensive line coach from 2005-2015, the Ravens allowed the NFL’s fewest rushing touchdowns (89), second-fewest points per game (18.9) and the league’s second-fewest rushing yards per game (94.2).
