Punter Sam Koch is the second-longest tenured member of the Ravens behind linebacker Terrell Suggs and the team doesn’t have designs on parting ways with him anytime soon.
The team announced Thursday that they have reached agreement on a five-year extension with Koch, who was entering the final year of his contract with a $2.5 million salary. No financial terms were announced by the team, but Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports the deal has a total value of $18.75 million and runs through the 2020 season.
The Ravens drafted Koch in the sixth round of the 2006 draft and he’s punted for them in every game since he joined the team. He’s posted a net average of 39.2 yards and set a career high in that category with 43.3 yards per kick during the 2014 season.
It wouldn’t be surprising if the Ravens sign their other kicking specialist to an extension at some point in the near future as well. Placekicker Justin Tucker is heading into the final year of his deal and Baltimore likely doesn’t want to give up a player who has been one of the best in the league since joining the team in 2012.
