No team in the league works the compensatory pick market like the Ravens, and they’ve struck again today, adding to their secondary.
Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Ravens have signed former Cardinals cornerback Jerraud Powers.
Powers was an unrestricted free agent, but by waiting until after yesterday’s deadline to sign him, the Ravens avoided having his addition factor into the equation for future comp picks, which are doled out based on net gains and losses in unrestricted free agency.
Powers has been a solid if unspectacular starter for the Colts and Cardinals, and drew some interest from his previous team and others previously this spring.
The Ravens used a fourth-round pick on cornerback Tavon Young, but with Lardarius Webb moving to safety, they still needed numbers at the position.
