On Wednesday, the Redskins announced that they had agreed to a contract with rookie running back Chris Thompson.
Thompson, a fifth-round pick last month, was one of two running backs the Redskins selected in the draft. The team announced Thursday that they have signed Jawan Jamison, the second of the backs, as well.
Jamison was selected with the 228th overall pick after wrapping up his career at Rutgers. The seventh-rounder ran for 1,972 yards and 13 touchdowns during his two collegiate seasons and said after the draft that he went pro with two years of eligibility left so that he could provide financial support to his mother.
Jamison and Thompson will join Roy Helu and Evan Royster in a scrum for spots on the depth chart behind Alfred Morris in 2013. Jamison will likely be an underdog in that competition, but no one really expected Morris to come out of last summer as the team’s starting running back so that’s relatively insignificant if he can play at the needed levels.
The Redskins have now signed four of their seven draft picks, with their first three picks remaining without contracts.
