Well, that didn’t take long.

The same day former Florida Gators playmaker/Olympic sprinter Jeff Demps declared he wanted to play football, one of the teams in his home state made clear its intentions.

Scott Reynolds of PewterReport.com reports the Buccaneers are “seriously interested,” in signing Demps.

Demps was a part of the American silver-winning 4x100-meter relay team, now wants to transition back to football. He wasn’t drafted, making him free to sign with any team.

But the Bucs, according to Reynolds’ report, were touching base prior to the Olympics to make sure he didn’t forget about them.

This one makes sense on a number of levels.

The Bucs could use another shot of speed in the passing game (they envision Demps as a slot receiver) to go with Vincent Jackson and what appears to be a good run game, along with some juice on special teams.

Demps, who grew up in Winter Garden, Fla. (outside Orlando), might also appeal to a fan base that has been sluggish when it comes to buying tickets. And that might be as important as anything he’d do on the field, to be honest.
