Wide receiver Travis Benjamin has drawn interest from a few different teams in the last couple of days and he’ll be able to sign with one of them as of 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
As of right now, the Chargers are reportedly in position to get his signature on a contract. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Chargers are the “team to beat” in the chase for Benjamin’s services with the official start of the new league year fast approaching.
There is more than enough time for another interested team -- the Falcons and Texans have also reportedly shown interest -- to make Benjamin move in another direction.
Benjamin, No. 35 on PFT’s list of the top free agents, is at the top of a thin group of wideouts in unrestricted free agency this season. That may not be great for teams looking for wideouts, as the Chargers are after Malcom Floyd’s retirement, but it will probably work out pretty well for Benjamin at some point on Wednesday afternoon.
