The Broncos have hired Wade Phillips as their defensive coordinator and he’s reportedly bringing on a former NFL defensive coordinator to assist him with the team’s outside linebackers.
Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reports that Fred Pagac will be the Broncos outside linebackers coach in 2015. Pagac spent more than a year as the Vikings’ defensive coordinator in 2010 and 2011, taking over the job when Leslie Frazier was bumped up to head coach after Brad Childress was fired and keeping it the next year.
The Vikings moved Pagac back to linebackers coach in 2012 and he spent 2014 doing the same job on Jim Schwartz’s staff with the Bills. Pagac also coached with the Raiders and Chiefs after making the jump to the NFL in 2001. Pagac was an assistant from 1978 to 2000 at Ohio State, including time as both the defensive coordinator and assistant head coach.
The Broncos have already announced the hiring of Reggie Herring as a linebackers coach. Presumably he will be working with the inside backers while Pagac is focused on the outside.
