Confusion reigned at times during the annual Super Bowl Media Day. Perhaps no faux pas or embarrassing miscue was more glaring than a funny exchange between a clueless, unnamed reporter and good-natured Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Farrior. In a classic case of mistaken identity, Farrior was identified incorrectly by a questioner today as Steelers linebacker and NFL Defensive Player of the Year James Harrison. However, Farrior didn’t get angry. Keep in mind Farrior was a first-round draft pick from the University of Virginia who signed with the Steelers as a free agent after beginning his career with the New York Jets. Conversely, Harrison went undrafted out of Kent State and was cut several times before winning a job. Here’s the verbatim conversation, courtesy of the St. Petersburg Times. Reporter: “James, being an undrafted guy out of Virginia, could you talk about your journey to this point?” A puzzled Farrior responded with a question: “Undrafted?” So, a different reporter immediately chimed in with a correction: “He was a first rounder.” Added Farrior: “You’re talking about the other James (Harrison).” Despite the confusion about whose journey the reporter was interested in discussing, Farrior was still willing to answer the question: “I feel like coming to the Pittsburgh Steelers was like a rebirth to me. It’s a perfect fit.”
