Rex Ryan on Percy Harvin: Explosive, exciting, outstanding talent
The Jets suffered another miserable loss on Sunday, but there was one bright spot: Percy Harvin looked great.
Harvin had 129 receiving yards, 88 kickoff return yards and eight rushing yards, and coach Rex Ryan said afterward that Harvin did everything the Jets hoped he would do when they traded for him.
“You see an explosive returner and an explosive receiver,” Ryan said. “Let’s face it, the guy is an outstanding talent and that is why we are excited to see him.”
Jets quarterback Michael Vick said today that he expects Harvin to be a big part of the offense going forward.
“It’s just good to see Percy get rolling,” Vick said. “I think he had 11 catches yesterday and that’s what we brought him in for, to be a difference maker, to make an impact for this offense and he’s doing just that. We’ve got to continue to find ways to get him the ball. I think getting Percy the ball in that type of way opens it up for the rest of the guys in the offense.”
The problem for the Jets is that they made the big move to acquire Harvin in the middle of a season going nowhere. If Harvin is going to use his playmaking abilities to help the Jets in meaningful games, it’s going to have to come next year, when there’s a good chance that Ryan won’t be his coach and Vick won’t be his quarterback.
