Though it remains to be seen whether Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers contends for the league MVP award, he has been named the most valuable player on his team.
The Chargers have announced that Rivers was named the team’s MVP, in a vote by his teammates.
The offensive player of the year voting resulted in a tie between tight end Antonio Gates and receiver Vincent Jackson. The defensive player of the year honors are split between linebacker Shaun Phillips and cornerback Quentin Jammer.
Kassim Osgood is the special-teams player of the year, left tackle Marcus McNeill is the lineman of the year, and linebacker Stephen Cooper was named the team’s most inspirational player.
The Chargers have won 10 straight games, the longest current winning streak in the league.
