Falcons wide receiver Roddy White said Thursday that he believes the Falcons can turn their season around after a 2-6 start that has them riding a five-game losing streak into this weekend’s matchup with the Buccaneers.

White identified many of the problem areas with the offense that others have been pointing out this season, but said that he thinks the team has the right kind of veteran leadership to get things moving in the right direction.

“I don’t think we lack leadership. It’s just frustrating when you don’t finish games and things like that,” White said, via the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “Everybody knows that our team is young and things like that and that we’re inexperienced at certain positions that are important on this team. It’s a tough task. But the guys at the wide receiver position, we’ve got to carry some of the guys on the line. At the quarterback position, we’ve got to carry some of the guys at the running back position. It’s just got to be that way. It’s got to be that way on defense, too. We have to carry each other to the finish line. We’ll be fine. Once we get this thing turned around and get everything going, then things will change.”

Strong leadership is an important part of a football team, but even the best leaders are going to be limited by the abilities of those they are leading. In Atlanta, that means an overmatched offensive line and an underwhelming defense that wouldn’t be any more likely to change their ways if George Patton were on the staff so White and company have their work cut out for them if things are going to get better in 2014.
