Guard Ronald Leary skipped voluntary work for the Cowboys this offseason because he wanted the team to trade him to a club that would use him in the starting lineup.

Leary is at camp with the Cowboys now, but remains behind La’el Collins at guard and said on Thursday that the “feeling on my end hasn’t changed at all” in terms of wanting to be somewhere he can play.

“I know I’m a starter in this league, so I just approach it like I’m a starter,” Leary said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I make sure I’m ready for whatever comes my way. As far as all the trade talks and everything, that’s just going to happen.”

Dealing Leary, who started 31 of 32 games in 2013 and 2014, would bring the Cowboys compensation that they could then use as part of their effort to acquire a backup for Tony Romo. His presence also gives them insurance that an injury on the offensive line wouldn’t completely tear down a unit that’s been a strength for Dallas in recent seasons, so the return would have to be tempting enough to thin out that depth.
