RUNYAN HAS MICROFRACTURE SURGERY

Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Jon Runyan’s free-agent prospects just took a hit as the veteran blocker has undergone microfracture surgery on his right knee that will take four to six months of recovery time, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Runyan, 35, had been hoping that renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews was only going to need to perform a relatively minor arthroscopic procedure. However, more significant damage was revealed. Under his rehabilitation time table, Runyan, who has played in 192 consecutive games for the third-longest streak among active players, should be ready by next season. “I think there’s enough of a track record out there that it’s not going to totally kill me,” Runyan told Les Bowen of the Daily News. “The doctor says I should be as good as new. But I’m not going to be able to prove it until time to play.” Of course, microfracture surgery, especially for a 13-year veteran like Runyan, is far from a sure-fire remedy. Meanwhile, Runyan will be on crutches for the better part of the next two months and is “bored off my [bleep].” He’s still hoping teams, including the Eagles, will take a chance on him and his repaired right knee.
