The Rams have taken care of a bit of financial housekeeping with center Scott Wells.

Field Yates of ESPN.com reports that Wells has restructured his contract to create some additional cap space for the summer. Wells finished last season on injured reserve after breaking his leg, but he’s expected to be healthy in time for the regular season.

The team cut his base salary for 2014 from $5.5 million to $1 million and converted $1.65 million to a bonus that was paid at the time of the restructure. Wells can earn back another $850,000 through roster bonuses based on his availability in the 2014 season. Wells also saw his 2015 salary cut from $5.5 million to $2 million and his compensation now includes $1.75 million in the form of a roster bonus.

Whether Wells remains on the roster long enough to receive that bonus will likely be based on his performance and health over the course of next season. If the Rams decide to make a change, 2013 fourth-round pick Barrett Jones is the next man on the depth chart.
