Silverdome can be yours for only $30 million

An autographed urinal from the Pontiac Silverdome recently went for $3,000. The rest of the building can be had for slightly more money.

Via JC Reindl of the Detroit Free Press, the dilapidated Silverdome and its surrounding 127 acres landed on the market several weeks ago with an asking price of $30 million. That would be a healthy profit for its current owner, who bought it in 2009 from the City of Pontiac for only $583,000.

The sale price has been described as “flexible” (the asking price for real estate almost always is), and two offers already have been made.

The current owner had planned to revitalize the venue, saying it never would be sold. Instead, the roof ripped away during a 2013 storm, and a 2014 auction of the building’s contents (including the urinal later signed by Barry Sanders) generated $500,0000.

Per the report, most of the prospective buyers would tear down the Silverdome and redevelop the area. Given the current state of the structure, that’s hardly a surprise.
