Jay Cutler said this week that the Bears “have one of the worst fields in the league at this point.” The guy who manages Soldier Field begs to differ.
“He’s wrong,” Soldier Field General Manager Tim LeFevour said Friday, while giving reporters a first-hand look at the Soldier Field sod.
The fact that LeFevour felt the need to take reporters on a tour of Soldier Field and defend his grass indicates that Cutler’s comments struck a nerve. But Soldier Field head groundskeeper John Nolan says the Bears just need to embrace the elements.
“Beginning of the season there’s no complaints,” Nolan said. “It’s Chicago. It’s cold. It rains. It snows. Come out here on Sunday. It’s supposed to be about 40 mph wind and about 20 degrees. I’m sure they’ll have fun with that.”
The Bears’ defense will have fun with it, even if Cutler won’t.
