Jon Gruden likes it when his name is mentioned as a hot head-coaching candidate. So even though he says he’s focused on his job at ESPN and not on the vacancy at the University of Miami, he’ll surely be pleased by the latest story that says Miami still wants him.
An article today from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, attributed to a University of Miami source who spoke with the newspaper on Tuesday, says that Gruden becoming the next coach of the Miami Hurricanes “definitely still is in play.”
That unnamed source said that discussions between Gruden’s camp and Miami have been ongoing, and that salary won’t be a sticking point but that the length of the contract between Gruden and the school could be.
There also may be concerns at Miami about whether Gruden is a good fit for college football. Of course, that doesn’t matter if Gruden has no interest in coaching a college team anyway.
But whether Gruden is really a candidate at Miami or not, unnamed sources are putting out the word to the Florida media that he is, and Gruden’s statement that he’s focused on ESPN aside, he surely likes that.
