Trevor Siemian “just trying to keep the same mindset” as QB competition unfolds

The Broncos wrapped up their offseason program last week with the identity of their starting quarterback still in the “to be determined” category.

Coach Gary Kubiak said that Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian “looked each other in the eyes the whole offseason,” leaving them on equal footing with rookie Paxton Lynch bringing up the rear as the team heads into training camp. It’s a big difference for Siemian after the 2015 seventh-round pick spent his rookie year watching Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler, albeit one he says won’t change his approach once the Broncos get back to work.

“I think my role had changed quite a bit, but I’m just trying to keep the same mindset and remind myself what got me to this point,” Siemian said, via ESPN.com. “Not trying to be somebody else, not trying to be Peyton, not trying to be Brock or anybody else. Just be myself, try to get comfortable in that leadership role. It’s been a quick turnaround for me.”

With 72 starts for the Jets and Eagles under his belt, Sanchez has had a lot more time to show what kind of quarterback he can be in the NFL. Siemian hasn’t had the same opportunities to this point, something that might help him in camp if the Broncos think his upside can bring more to the offense than the more experienced option.
