After 32 years at the Metrodome and two years outdoors at TCF Bank Stadium, the Vikings are moving into a new home this season.
They were playing outside at the stadium built for the University of Minnesota football team while waiting for U.S. Bank Stadium to be built, but will resume playing their home games indoors during the third full week of the preseason schedule.
That schedule was announced on Thursday and calls for the Vikings to host the Chargers for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff on Sunday, August 28. The game will be nationally televised on FOX and should feature starters from both teams taking part in a dress rehearsal for the regular season while the stadium’s operations staff does the same thing.
Minnesota will be at home a few nights later to close the preseason against the Rams on September 1. They open the preseason with a trip to Cincinnati, where head coach Mike Zimmer will face the team he worked for before being hired by the Vikings.
