With the Chargers having nothing to gain or lose against the Redskins in Week 17, they have no reason to use quarterback Philip Rivers or any of their other starters.
And so at least one fairly prominent starter won’t be playing the full game for San Diego on Sunday.
Per the Associated Press, quarterback Philip Rivers is expected to yield at some point to Billy Volek.
“I want to see Billy get some good opportunities,” coach Norv Turner said.
Volek has gotten no opportunities in 2009. He appeared in three games this season, throwing only one pass. He also has taken a knee eight times. He didn’t take a single snap in 2008.
