VanValkenburg will be eligible to play in 2019, and also have two more years of eligibility. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound lineman registered 70 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles as a redshirt sophomore, and had offers from several schools after announcing his intent to transfer. The level of competition is obviously going (way) up, but it sounds like the Hawkeyes are getting a nice rotation option, and maybe more.

VanValkenburg (6'4/260) announced on Twitter earlier this month that this Iowa transfer was in the works. It’s in the books, now. This past season, he logged 70 tackles (14.5 for loss), 8.5 sacks and a trio of forced fumbles. Even accounting for losses on the defensive line (notably Anthony Nelson to the draft), Iowa was relatively well-stocked on that front prior to VanValkenburg’s transfer to the heartland. All the richer, now.
