PHT Morning Skate: Brock Lesnar fires up crowd at Jets game
--Troy Terry made a name for himself at this year’s World Junior Hockey Championship. He was known for his ability to score big goals, including his signature five-hole markers in the shootout. “It’s kind of been my go-to move over the years, but I’ve never really been particularly known as a shootout specialist. I guess the hockey gods were just in my favor for those two games,” said Terry. (Denver Post)
--After Patrik Laine was knocked out of a game because of a big hit, the ESPN hockey roundtable discusses fighting after delivering a clean hit. Is it necessary? “To the players, I say: Take the hit, suck it up and continue playing. As long as it’s a clean hit, there’s no need to retaliate. I also understand when it’s a franchise player on the receiving end of said hit, but it’s part of the game.” (ESPN)
--Players who played at this year’s World Junior Hockey Championship discuss Auston Matthews and Laine’s overall performances in the NHL this season. “He had one of the greatest shots I have ever seen, even in pro hockey, so I know he can score goals but I don’t think even he expected that he was going to score like that many goals [in the NHL],” said former Finnish teammate Olli Juolevi. (NHL)
--Montreal Canadiens fans love to hate head coach Michel Therrien, but no one can deny that he’s done a terrific job this season. Montreal Gazette columnist Jack Todd argues that this is the best job Therrien’s done in his career. “Coming off last season’s shambles, he had to steady the ship, work in important new components like Andrew Shaw and Shea Weber and make people forget P.K. Subban — and he had to win coming out of the gate because the vultures were circling.” (Montreal Gazette)
--This is one of the most impressive outdoor ice rinks you’ll ever see. Shawn Carlon of Minnesota built his backyard rink using waterproof LED lights. You have to see this to believe it. (BarDown)
--Former WWE and UFC champion Brock Lesnar made an appearance at the MTS Center in Winnipeg last night. Lesner took the opportunity to pump up the Jets faithful during a quick interview on the big screen:
He also clearly doesn’t know about unwritten rules in a hockey locker room (top).
