Nik Turley has signed a one-year contract with the Hiroshima Carp of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.
Turley spent the entire 2021 campaign at Triple-A Charlotte in the White Sox’ minor-league system, recording five saves to go along with a respectable 5.02 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 60/21 K/BB ratio across 43 innings (43 appearances). White Sox designated LHP Nik Turley for assignment.
The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster and makes room for José Ruiz as the final member of Chicago’s bullpen to begin the year. Turley, 31, was claimed off waivers from the Athletics this month after posting a 4.98 ERA over 25 relief appearances with the Pirates last season. Now his journey around the league could continue.

The 31-year old ad allowed 10 earned runs on 10 hits and four walks this spring for the A’s. To make room for Turley in the 40-man roster, the White Sox placed RHP Jimmy Cordero on the 60-day injured list.

Athletics acquired LHP Nik Turley from the Pirates for cash considerations.
Turley was designated for assignment by Pittsburgh on Tuesday after posting a 4.98 ERA and 20/11 K/BB ratio over 21 2/3 innings of relief in 2020. He’ll compete for a bullpen spot in A’s camp this spring.

Pirates designated LHP Nik Turley for assignment.
Just another little setback for a former 50th-round pick who took nine years to reach the majors when he debuted for the Twins in 2017. He had an 11.21 ERA then and didn’t get another chance until last season, when he had a 4.98 ERA but a better 3.88 FIP in 25 appearances for Pittsburgh. The Pirates are surely hoping he clears waivers and heads to camp as a non-roster player.

Nik Turley pitched a scoreless ninth in a two-run game for his first major league save Thursday in the second game of the doubleheader against the Cardinals.
Congratulations to Turley, a 2008 50th-round pick of the Yankees. Before making the Pirates last month, his only previous major league action saw him post an 11.21 ERA in three starts and seven relief appearances for the Twins in 2017. Turley has a 3.18 ERA this year, but his 9/7 K/BB in 11 1/3 innings isn’t so encouraging. He’s as much of a candidate for saves as anyone in Pittsburgh’s pen right now, but we still wouldn’t suggest rushing to pick him up.

Pirates purchased the contract of LHP Nik Turley.
Turley has not pitched in an MLB game since 2017 when he was a member of the Twins. The southpaw will work out of the bullpen for the Pirates this summer; mostly facing left-handed hitters.

He’s now off the 40-man roster. Turley didn’t pitch at all this season following a PED suspension and also an elbow injury.
