Being an Olympian can bring you a lot of perks. But as U.S. figure skater and high school student Polina Edmunds can tell you, getting out of having to do math problems isn’t one of them.
Edmunds, who finished second to Gracie Gold last month in the U.S. Nationals before earning a spot on Team USA, has been preparing for the ladies’ competition that begins on Wednesday.
But according to the Associated Press, she’s also been given three weeks’ worth of assignments by her teachers at San Jose, California’s Archbishop Mitty High School so she won’t be behind on the curriculum when she returns from Sochi.

One of her teachers also has a way to keep tabs on Edmunds’ progress in her studies while she’s at the Olympics. That particular teacher is the mother of Edmunds’ skating coach.
It’s probably safe to assume the 15-year-old isn’t slacking off away from the rink.
Meanwhile, she’s returned to Sochi after several days of training in Austria with U.S. teammates Gold and Ashley Wagner ahead of their big event.
