Rosa Khutor, a Sochi Olympic mountain cluster venue, is set to officially open for ski season Saturday.
But four days before that, and less than two months before the Olympics, an avalanche warning was issued for the mountains near the Russian Olympic host city.
“Avalanches could cause blackouts, disruption of communications, housing services and transportation,” the Russian Emergency Situationa Ministry’s Krasnodar regional subdivision said in a statement, according to Xinhua News Agency.
The temperature in the area was 18 degrees Farenheit on Tuesday and will get up to 29 degrees with precipitation Saturday, according to weather.com.
“There is a likelihood of problems with energy supplies, communications, housing services and transport routes,” the ministry said, according to RIA Novosti.
