He allowed eight hits and a walk while striking out three. It was his first game with the Phillies after pitching eight games in relief for the Rangers earlier this year. The 27-year-old right-hander was making a spot start in place of the injured Aaron Nola tonight. He has a 5.93 ERA with 15 strikeouts and three walks in 13 2/3 innings overall.

Klein made a spot start against the Giants in place of Aaron Nola (elbow) on Wednesday, allowing four runs on eight hits over five innings in a no-decision. Manager Pat Mackanin said before the game that prospect Jake Thompson was a strong possibility to take Nola’s place in the rotation moving forward. Klein walked two and struck out three on the afternoon. Unfortunately, the rest of the Phillies bullpen wasn’t as good and they would go on to lose the ballgame. He finishes his season with a troublesome 6.98 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 19/9 K/BB ratio across 19 1/3 innings.

Jake Thompson has been shut down, so the Phillies needed a spot starter in what will be a bullpen game versus the Mets. Klein threw five innings in a spot start last month but hasn’t gone more than 1 1/3 frames in September, so he won’t be in long Saturday.

The hard-throwing 27-year-old will work out of the Phillies bullpen over the final three weeks of the season. He owns a 5.93 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 15/3 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 innings between the Rangers and Phillies this season.

The move allows Klein to pursue an opportunity to pitch in Asia. The 27-year-old posted a 6.98 ERA and 19/9 K/BB ratio over 19 1/3 innings between the Rangers and Phillies this past season.

Klein was given his release by the Phillies last week in order to pitch overseas. The 27-year-old has posted a 5.50 ERA and 54/29 K/BB ratio over 55 2/3 innings in the majors between the Rangers and Phillies.
