    Bills waived LB Randell Johnson.
The 2014 seventh-rounder failed to progress in year three after being tried at several positions, including defensive end, inside linebacker, and outside linebacker over the years. Johnson is probably a special teamer at best.
  • FA Defensive Back
Bills placed LCB Leodis McKelvin and LB Randell Johnson on the active/PUP list.
McKelvin is recovering from offseason hip surgery. He’s not expected to miss much camp, and can be activated at any time. Johnson’s injury is unknown, but he missed time throughout his college career at FAU with nagging injuries.
  • FA Linebacker
The Bills worked seventh-round LB Randell Johnson at defensive end on Wednesday.
Johnson had been working with the linebackers to this point. At Florida Atlantic, Johnson played both end and linebacker. He struggles in coverage, so letting him focus on getting into the backfield should help him adjust to the NFL quicker. Johnson will have to show well on teams to crack the 53-man roster.
  • FA Linebacker
Bills signed No. 221 overall pick LB Randell Johnson to a four-year contract.
Coming off an injury-plagued career for Florida Atlantic, Johnson will attempt to crack the 53-man roster as a special teamer. His most likely home for 2014 is the practice squad.
  • FA Linebacker
Bills selected Florida Atlantic LB Randell Johnson with the No. 221 overall pick in the NFL draft.
Johnson (6-foot-3 1/4, 242) ran 4.60 at the Owls’ Pro Day, adding a 38 1/2-inch vertical and 10-foot broad jump. Injury plagued at FAU, Johnson played end, linebacker, and special teams as a senior, recording 7.5 TFLs and 2.5 sacks. He should help Buffalo’s kick and punt coverage units if he makes the final 53. Johnson is a long shot to become a contributing defender.
