Padres signed LHP Ryan Carpenter to a minor league contract.
Carpenter hasn’t appeared in the majors since the 2019 campaign when he made a career-high nine starts for the Tigers, finishing with a stratospheric 9.30 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 25/13 K/BB ratio across 40 2/3 innings of work. The 33-year-old southpaw has spent the last three seasons pitching overseas in Taiwan’s Chinese Professional Baseball League and the Korea Baseball Organization. He represents extra organizational starting pitching depth for San Diego heading into spring training.

Carpenter returns for another stint in Korea after posting a 3.97 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 179/72 K/BB ratio across 170 innings last season. He’ll take home $350,000 and can earn an additional $200,000 through incentives. The deal also includes a $200,000 signing bonus.

The 30-year-old southpaw also pitched overseas in 2020, toeing the slab for the Rakuten Monkeys of the Chinese Baseball League. There, he registered a 4.00 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 150/33 K/BB ratio across 157 1/3 innings in 26 appearances (25 starts). He’ll earn a base salary of $300,000 along with a signing bonus of $100,000. Carpenter also has the opportunity to earn an additional $100,000 in incentives.

Former Tigers’ left-hander Ryan Carpenter has signed a contract to play with the Rakuten Monkeys of the Chinese Professional Baseball League.
The 29-year-old southpaw made nine starts for the Tigers in 2019, posting a cringe-inducing 9.30 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 25/13 K/BB ratio across 40 2/3 innings. He was going to have to settle for a minor league deal stateside, so perhaps this move makes sense for Carpenter financially and will allow him to rebuild his value.

    Tigers released LHP Ryan Carpenter.
The move clears a spot for the newly-claimed Troy Stokes on the 40-man roster. Carpenter struggled with a 9.30 ERA in 40 2/3 innings with the Tigers this year. He was demoted to Triple-A in July and recently missed time due to injury.

Tigers optioned LHP Ryan Carpenter to Triple-A Toledo.
Carpenter made a spot start on Tuesday night against the Indians and was lit up for seven earned runs over just three innings of work. The 28-year-old now owns a 9.30 ERA in 40 2/3 total innings this season with Detroit.

Ryan Carpenter will be recalled by the Tigers to start Tuesday versus the Indians.
Carpenter has been battered to the tune of an 8.36 ERA over eight starts this season with the Tigers, but they’re not interested in giving anyone else a shot. Obviously, fantasy owners can ignore him.

Tigers optioned LHP Ryan Carpenter to Triple-A Toldeo.
This move doesn’t come as a surprise after another rough outing in Friday’s loss to the Red Sox. He’ll continue to function as added rotation depth at Triple-A. A corresponding move will be announced prior to Saturday’s game.

Ryan Carpenter struggled in Friday’s loss to the Red Sox, giving up three runs on seven hits over his five innings of work.
The left-hander struck out four on the night while issuing just one walk. The big blow against him came on a two-run blast off the bat of Rafael Devers in the third inning. Carpenter has been a disaster in his time with the Tigers, registering an 8.36 ERA and 1.75 WHIP across 37 2/3 innings. It’s unlikely that he’ll stick around to make another start after the All-Star break.

Tigers recalled LHP Ryan Carpenter from Triple-A Toledo.
Carpenter holds an 8.82 ERA over seven starts for the Tigers this season. He looks to be in line to work as a long reliever this time around.
